Time is running Out (Arista) |
Probably the best band in the world (to practice your air guitar to), Muse have come back in force with this latest offering. All the classic mosher yayayalalalayayayaooooooooh phrases are included, plus a very sexy distorted bass and the archetypal spacey piano added in for good measure. You get the impression that Matt Bellamy has written songs like this for the sole purpose of justifying smashing up a PRS Guitar worth two and a half grand… the basted; I want a go! ‘Time is Running Out’ is somewhere between ‘Plug in Baby’ and ‘Unintended’, all you’d expect: loud, quiet, loud, quiet etc… but the track is tighter than normal whilst still preserving Bellamy’s raw voice with a range similar to Mariah Carey’s. Fact of the day: Muse haven’t just stolen all the best bits of Radiohead and made them more extreme! |

What Your Soul Sings (Bad Company Authorised) |
This comes off the latest album by Massive attack in five years! That’s bloody ages, but it still sounds just like its predecessor: Mezzanine, despite yet more changes to their line up. The moody dark eerie sounds of the synths in this single are reflected in the vocals provided by Sinead O’conner. The music is beautiful and reminds me of waiting for Radiohead to appear live onstage in 1997 while ‘Meeting in the Isle’ bounced off the walls of Wembly Arena… aaaaaaaaaaaah. The suspense in this song is great, go listen and wallow, you’ll feel like a pig in shit; Bollocks they’re clean animals! Still, we have to end on a sad note: Sinead has retired from the music business now to pursue an alternative career… head shaving for women maybe? How about mucking out pigsties, after all, ‘nothing compares… to poo’. I apologize. |

One Heart (Arista) |
‘One Heart' is the follow-up to 'A New Day Has Come’ and is just as good if not better! Her soulful voice gently places itself upon the light dance beat and acoustic guitars provided by someone who can play them. She opts for close vocal production not dissimilar to her attractive counterpart: Shania Twain, which marks a change from her label heavy reverb used on all her other songs. Unfortunately the song, at just over two and a half minutes is too short. You just wanna put it on again and again and again and again! The lyrics are constructed in a delicate manner, essentially the song’s premise is that a human heart can be used as a torch to light the way through tough mental issues which Celine is clearly suffering from… Celine!!….. CELINE!!!! It’s time for your HRT! |
